"Ibu, can we keep a parrot?
*thinks fast* "Uhm...I don't think so. Nanti Chichi makan dia macam Awang dulu. Cats like to eat birds." (for the uninitiated, Awang Kenit was a former cat who butchered my dad's expensive songbird)
*silence*
"Ibu, can I have a good dog for a pet?"
*GULP* *apa hal pulak budak ni?*
"Uhm..eh mana boleh...kan kita orang Islam. We cannot touch dogs."
*silence*
"Takpe, we can just hold the string."
*mind racing, thinking of ways to deliver a lecture on responsibility*
"Abis kalau dia nak manja-manja macam Chichi macam mana? Kita tak boleh pegang dia."
"Never mind." *long pause* "We can wear mittens."

HAHAHHAH! Reminds me of when after watching Sesame Street, my sister asked if we could keep one tiny cute piglet. She even said its not haram cos Allah said we cannot eat pigs and that we wont be eating her piglet. (>.<)
ReplyDeletekhalidah - don't kids ask the darnest things..:-)

ReplyDeleteHe wouldn't be convinced with your answers if you duduk kat sini....many many Muslims simpan anjing! No mittens, no string! As it is, Maryam's confused. I tell her one hukum, but people do the other...
ReplyDeletehahah...remind me of my nephew at ilhan's age...we were watching malay drama, a sad scene where the baby died and was beingburied at the cemetary. The baby's parent pour air mawar onto the kubur and he piped up...why did the man pour water on the baby?... i looked over to his mom and we were at a loss as how to answer...(ya tak ya jugak...why do we do dat...btw i still dun understand the logic behind it).. then he answered his own question..."Oh I know...so that the baby will grow right..? Like daddy he pour water on plants to make plants grow..."
ReplyDelete*speechless-whilst-trying-so-hard-to-curb-inappropriate-snorts-of-laughter*
