we've been doing quite a lot of stuff the past month, but hai....the photos semua bersepah-sepah all over - laptop, desktop, mobile phones, digital camera. i'll sort them out slowly.
my mak and brother were here for a good 12 days, and it's great to see loved ones from home. we had fun going down south to margaret river and doing the usual stuff around perth. my kitchen, especially my pantry and my fridge, has been 'spruced up' and inventoried as only a mother knows how.
i've also engaged in a new vice those precious minutes when the desktop is not in use. 4-letter word. Ebay. gawd...it's been so addictive, especially since the Oz ebay has maternity clothes with long sleeves and in real woman's sizes (and not those stick-insect sizes in singapore).the bids start as low as $0.99 and i give myself a maximum of about $15 (ok, ok, this one bedek, got a few went over the limit alreay) and i got my first item in a package today. wah so happy one.
for you sharp-eyed ones, yes you saw the word right. meet Ilhan's adik, akan datang 1 may 2008 insya Allah..

yeah, alhamdullillah. ilhan is getting an adik...congratulations to you...(sob, sob for me :(

ReplyDeletealhamdulillah, congrats, cake! i'm very happy for you! my bub's due in july - kalau tinggal sama state, our bubs can be playmates! hehehe... :)
ReplyDeleteOoooh....I think I missed out this entry....I find the pre-natal care here is a huge contrast to that in Singapore. I notice me frens here go to public hospitals for their check-ups, no personal gynaes. Think it's because of the Medicare use. Only when the docs anticipate imminent complications, they'd make you scout for a specialist (gynae la tu). I have found a Singaporean gynae here whom I'm yet to contact for my post-op follow-ups.
ReplyDeletepractically everything here is free, pre-natal(blood test, scan, everything) -> delivery(hospital stay, etc) -> post-natal. All free for PRs and citizens(medicare & centrelink)! All checkups can be done at your own GP/gynae or the womens' hospitals will recommend Shared-care facilities (usually run by gynae/midwives - it's also free) affiliated with them. If you have your own gynae, and if they have bulk-billing it is also free. Hospitals (Mercy or Royal Women's Hospital) will provide the shared care facilities nearest to or in your suburb. So you got the option to be 'kiasu' and visit your gp/gynae often or 'rileks one corner' and visit ur assigned shared carer/hospital --> you have the choice and freedom, ie no stress!
ReplyDeleteOn top of that, once the baby is born there is a one time baby bonus of AU5000 or 6000. Furthermore there will be welfare support (child/parent assistance)- abt 240-350 per fortnight per child. If you or your husband is on leave (paternity/maternity), you'll get the full assistance from Centrelink.
What you get are Child Assistance(for each child)+Parenting Assistance+Allowance+Renting Assistance(if you are renting) --> if you or your wife is working then it will be based on minimum salary (wc is about 35k per year to get full payments) otherwise the assistance will be calculated according to salary percentage. If you send your children to child care, there will be further assistance and rebates.
That is why you see lots of people here have 'tonnes of children', furthermore with the new Rudd government it will be Pro Family --> ie more $$ support.
whoa seriously? 5-6K!!!?
ReplyDeleteAnd fornightly welfare support??
waaaaahhhh this is getting me thinkin now...mmm
But if you had read the latest parliamentary debates, they want to raise the tax for couples with more kids. Some people do take advantage of this whole welfare benefits. My fren's neighbour, this old Aussie couple, adopted 5 little kids. They get the grant from Centrelink but misuse the &&& for worthless expenditures like boozing and puffs.
ReplyDeleteI have read that the baby bonus is subjected to the working status of the mom. You work, you get less. Housewives tend to benefit more. Free daycare and all. You have to pay a certain % if you're working. Strange, why would housewives need daycare? Working moms need it more!
yeah, standard for all babies and kids. But once they are in school, you get much lesser and no more parenting allowance. We got 2 non-school going kids and still got some allowance even both of us have salaries(+ renting assistance). Alhamdulillah, rezki Allah beri - we never quite knew all this welfare thingy before we become PR. we just want the pro family lifestyle. ;-)
ReplyDeleteyou have to take advantage, because we pay so much tax. ;-)
ReplyDeletedo they pay you to be their spokesperson hasbi? info overload there.
ReplyDeleteyou make it all seem so fine and dandy. baguslah you PR. not everything's as marvellous as they seem :) i've gotten past that honeymoon stage.
of course lah diaorang bayar, we are the Malay representatives for the area ;-P This is because there is an increase of 45% in the past 2 years in the number of Malays (Singapore, Indon and Malaysia PR/Citizen) who stays in this Northern suburb of Victoria. And generally we are still short of Professional Malays as the total population of Professional Malays is only 0.2%. :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry eh kalau teroverload. Thousand of apologies.
hmmmm.... still short of Professional Malays eh?
ReplyDeleteIsn't it the same here as well in Sunny Stressapura?
terkeluar-ring again hasbi. 3 strikes and you're out.
ReplyDeleteKua Kua Kua! kak AAAAALLL! You're so farneee! Macam mane tak short of Prof Malays do Sunny Stressapura...dulu Singapura di langgar todak, sekarang kena sambar petir! Power To The People!
